Arriva Scotland West gets CCTV with Wi-Fi
30 April 2008

- systems proven to protect staff and passengers -

Arriva Scotland West has taken delivery of over 120 brand new CCTV systems complete with Wi-Fi. The Arriva Group has over 5,000 on-vehicle installations supplied by 21st Century in the UK and Europe and decided to install all 79 buses at the company's Inchinnan depot and 50% of their Johnstone depot (an additional 42 vehicles).

Arriva Scotland West is the main bus operator in the Renfrewshire area, operating up to 17 million passenger journeys a year. Sharon Morrison, Marketing and Information Manager for Arriva Scotland West, comments:  "As the area's leading bus operator, we take pride in how we look after our passengers and our staff.  Part of that care comes in the form of the very latest in CCTV protection. However, as the technology is constantly evolving, we are reassured that the 21st Century system is ready to adapt and keep pace with our requirements."

All the vehicles are fitted with integrated CCTV and Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi comprises of a wireless device installed onto each vehicle and another at each depot which the vehicles communicate with. In turn, these are linked via software to the depot server.

The use of 21st Century CCTV with Wi-Fi is the first step to achieving complete automation and has three main functions. These enable the system configuration and any software upgrades to be completed remotely, as well as automatic video transfers between vehicles and the depot servers. Another key benefit is the functionality of the status server ‘Heartbeat', which provides easy to use remote vehicle monitoring, enabling operators to monitor the operational status of their fleet at all times.
