Passenger Analysis System to improve route management
10 October 2007
The UK's Wi-Fi market leader 21st Century has launched its first fully integrated passenger counting system.
21st Century has over 20% of the on-bus CCTV installations throughout TfL and over 5000 ProGuard installations in the UK. The Company leads the market in installations of CCTV with Wi-Fi and integrated telematics displays.
The 21st Century passenger analysis system (PAS) provides a count of boarding and alighting passengers, to enable stage by stage reporting of passenger volumes and more accurate route management.
The system is well hidden on the vehicle and the only visible component is an additional 21st Century camera, located above each entry and exit point on the vehicle. The camera is connected to the intelligent 21st Century PAS controller, which has software configured to allow for varying background and environmental conditions.
The PAS controller provides data, recording passengers boarding, which can be paired with a reference for date, time, GPS location, route and stage, in order to provide a full passenger analysis system.
In trials, the system has demonstrated highly accurate recording, which operators and authorities hope will enable them to accurately identify where route modifications could be made to improve services.
